The Smart Investigator
Process Mining users don’t want to stop at identifying what went wrong. They want to understand why.
Smart Investigator helps answer those why questions behind observed issues in process data, such as long durations, high rework, or conformance violations. It can explain why some cases take much longer than others, why rework happens repeatedly, or why certain paths consistently lead to better or worse outcomes.
Instead of digging through filters, pivot tables, or dashboards, Smart Investigator uses advanced AI to uncover clear, data-backed explanations almost instantly. It highlights the factors that drive process issues, such as bottlenecks, helping you move quickly from uncertainty to clarity. It acts as your personal assistant.
Smart Investigator bridges the gap from “something’s wrong” to “here’s what’s causing it.” It provides fast and accurate results that any user can understand, no matter their technical skill level.

Once a project is created and data uploaded, Smart Investigator activates automatically. The AI model analyzes key influencers affecting Idle Duration, Rework, and Total Duration, and surfaces meaningful trends through an easy-to-use interface.
The first page you see is the Investigation Management Page, which shows cards for each key metric. Each card lists the most important factors and their impact percentages, so you can quickly see what’s influencing performance. Click View influencers to drill down into the details.
The page has two tabs, Automatic and Custom, to switch between investigation types. Custom allows greater user control to investigate specific metrics.
When your data is ingested, you'll see that auto investigations have run in the background. These are automatically triggered when, for example, new data is added, a conformance model is created, or an end case rule is defined. Here the smart investigator is highlighting what's influencing total duration, idle duration and reworks of cases that you don't have to dig around manually. These correspond to the standard KPIs of a project. It's hands free and gives you immediate insights.
The Investigation Details Page lets you focus on a single investigation. A clickable horizontal bar chart ranks the leading influencers, and interactive widgets on the side show quick trends and statistics. Expanding a widget provides deeper context and insights, making it easy to understand the causes behind the data.
With Smart Investigator, you always have the choice:
